Cutting Edge

Cutting Edge was set up in 2001 to promote surgery as a career within the University and the Medical School. It is affiliated with the Royal College of Surgeons and has a membership approaching 250. The society aims to achieve its goals by promoting RCS and WIST events, organising talks from surgeons in all stages of their career - both about particular surgical specialties, and about surgical training in general and by organising clinical skills workshops.

KAOS - Kids Action Over Seas

KAOS is an international children's community action group set up by medical students. They are volunteer led, and send and support their volunteers to run projects in association with charities based in Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia or Peru. KAOS raises money in various ways, namely charity hitch hikes, club nights and charity collection pub crawls. Last year over £13, 000 was raised! Volunteers get the opportunity to have an international and community specific impact on health awareness, poverty and injustice. If you're interested in getting involved on any level - fundraising, project opportunities or project assessment - please have a look at the website.

MedSin
Medsin-UK is a national network of healthcare students who raise awareness of and take action on global health issues. Formed in 1997, Medsin is a network of motivated healthcare students active in curriculum issues, community projects, international exchanges, campaigns and conferences. Medsin-UK is also the UK member of the International Federation of Medical Students' Associations and is involved in arranging professional and research exchanges with other medical schools in 91 countries across the world.

They aim to organise social events that fit around the timetables of students who like to work hard and play hard! Medsoc is a very active society, holding several large events each term, ranging from summer barbeques to cocktail parties and the annual Spring Ball.

St Johns Ambulance (LMSU)
LMSU trains medical students to a very high standard, so that they can go out on duty and provide first aid care to the general public. Our training complements the medical school training, and has something for everyone, no matter what stage of their medical training they are at.

Widening Access to Medical School (WAMS)
This site was designed to help people through the daunting process of medical admissions. Getting into medical school is not an easy task and (quite rightly) demands a lot of motivation and dedication and a great deal of specialist knowledge is required. Students at Leeds University's School of Medicine realised that there was no one website which dealt with all of those burning questions that you have, so they created one!
